Calgary, Alberta, September 30, 2003 - Veer, a provider of unique visual elements and design-related products, announced today that the company had won two awards for the Veer web site: Best B2B Website from Applied Arts, a Canadian design magazine, and Best B2B Website at the Web Marketing Association’s WebAwards.
The Veer web site, veer.com, presents the company’s collections of unique imagery, motion and typefaces in a rich, visually appealing way that resonates with creatives, because it has been developed by creatives . “For us, it’s about being more than an image vending machine,” said Brock Bohonos, one of the founding partners of Veer. “It’s about truly showcasing the imagery and type we carry in ways that are meaningful to creatives. Try-before-you-buy tools like Image Zoom and our font application, Flont, show details and real-world uses that help creatives choose products more effectively. But it’s more than that - it’s speaking in a language, visual and verbal, that creatives understand and appreciate.” Bohonos credits this commitment to their audience as playing the biggest role in winning the awards.
Announced September 16th, 2003, the WebAwards recognize the effort and ingenuity that must go into web sites in today’s environment of ever-increasing standards and competition for the almighty click. Judging is based on peer evaluation on a site by site basis and comparison of sites in the same industry category, and included a diverse panel of judges including representatives from the Mayo Clinic, priceline.com, Dolce & Gabbana S.p.A. and Saatchi and Saatchi. Veer competed in the B2B (business to business) category, and won - the only visual content company to do so this year. Established by the Web Marketing Association, which is made up of Internet marketing, advertising, PR, and design professionals from around the United States, the WebAwards have been rewarding web excellence for seven years and have included such winners as Disney Online, L.L. Bean, FedEx, and Google.
Earlier this month, the Veer web site was also recognized by Applied Arts magazine, winning the award for Best B2B Website. The award underscores that Veer is achieving the goal of reaching creatives - the graphic designers, art directors, new media designers, photographers, illustrators, and corporate communications professionals which made up the judging panel, and which define the readership of Applied Arts, a visual communications publication. Veer.com won over this audience with a clean, accessible interface that is both intuitive and simple to navigate, making for an engaging place to find visual elements and fuel creativity among the design-savvy. In particular, The Ideas section offers users a chance to glean ideas and inspiration through interactive thematic galleries, related movies, and The Skinny, a frequently updated design weblog.
“Winning one award for the Veer web site suggests that our distinctly different approach is striking a chord.” said Sheldon Popiel, Creative Director at Veer. “The second award puts an exclamation point on it. But more importantly, it shows that we’re doing right by the creative community, that they believe in what we’re doing and see the difference between us and the other players in the market.”
The difference is not entirely surprising when one considers the team that came together to form Veer. The group pioneered the cross-product e-commerce model, with roots that trace back through Getty Images, EyeWire, and Adobe Systems. Veer continues the tradition of quality and innovation, while pushing the creative envelope, developing online delivery systems and technology, and fulfilling the desire among designers for a company that delivers more than just content.
