Veer recognized for catalog, logo, and stationery

New York, New York, December 18, 2003 - Veer, a provider of visual elements and design-related products, announced today that Graphic Design:usa magazine had honored the company with top prizes in three categories at the 2003 American Graphic Design Awards, for direct mail, logo, and stationery.

Veer’s goal is to source and deliver visual elements for creatives who need to diverge from the norm and generate fresh solutions. The company champions a design-driven approach, presenting its elements in inventive new contexts. This philosophy is embraced in the Veer logo, which uses a unique custom script on a solid rectangle. Both the name and logo stand out in a marketplace cluttered with overtly technical or coldly businesslike identities. The Veer stationery is simple in composition, yet makes a strong statement with its warm orange tone.

An encapsulation of the company’s mission is found every month in the Veer Visual Elements catalog. Every catalog features a new design or conceptual theme that resonates with creatives, with ever-changing image spreads rather than cookie-cutter grids, and type showings that display a wide range of fonts to their best advantage. This direct mail catalog offers new explorations of stock to inspire new creative possibilities.

“We’re truly honored by the awards,” said Sheldon Popiel, Veer Creative Director. “The Veer identity was designed completely in-house, by the same people that create the Veer catalog, collateral, and web site every day.” Added Popiel, “The peer recognition is great, and affirms what we’re doing at Veer is resonating with the design community, because we are different from the other choices out there.”

A monthly business-to-business magazines for professional graphic designers and related creative and production professionals, Graphic Design:usa is the major sponsor of the competition which rewards excellence in graphic design in a variety of media and projects - print, packaging, and advertising, to name but a few. This year’s judges for the 2003 American Graphic Design Awards, nine creative directors in total, come from a diverse range of organizations, and have produced award-winning work for companies such as Warner Brothers, Seagram’s, CBS, and Harley Davidson. Informed in early fall, the winners are featured in the December issue of the magazine.

Drina Lazar, General Manager and founding partner of Veer, agreed that the receipt of the awards and recognition by their peers was important and motivating, but that they are also a part of larger story for the company, now in just its second year of operation. “This is a big milestone for us,” Lazar said. “The year has been filled with them: the acquisition of Solus Images in November and Jukebox Type Foundry in October; major sponsorship of the 2003 AIGA National Design Conference; and creative initiatives like the recently launched Lightboxing feature on veer.com.”

The awards for design achievement are numbers three, four, and five of the year for the company having garnered two top prizes in September from Applied Arts and the Web Marketing Association’s WebAwards, both for Best B2B Web Site.
