Veer supports emerging design talent in Canada

Veer scholarship winners announced

June 18, 2007 - The Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) recently announced the winners of the 2007 GDC National Scholarships. Veer sponsors two of these student scholarships awarded to Canadian students to aid in their pursuit of study in graphic design. Now in its fifth year, this annual competition is open to GDC student members completing or returning to continue a program of design study.

We congratulate this year’s recipients of the Veer scholarships:

$1,500 Veer Scholarship
Oleksandra Korobova
York University/Sheridan Institute, Toronto, ON

$1,000 Veer Scholarship
Vincent de Vera
Capilano College, North Vancouver, BC

The purpose of these scholarships is to recognize emerging excellence in design achievement and to encourage students to explore their creative talents as they get closer to professional practice.

Administered by the GDC, students submit grade transcripts, a letter of endorsement from a design educator, a personal letter discussing their experience with design and reasons for applying, and one project that exemplifies their abilities and potential including a description of the project’s requirements and a detailed rationale. The submissions were reviewed by a panel of judges including professional members of the GDC, Societé des graphistes du Québec (SGDC), and International Council of Design Associations (ICOGRADA).

In addition to sponsoring the GDC National Scholarships, Veer also supports the Veer Student Scholarship for Photography through the Art Director’s Club (ADC) in New York.
