(March 10, 2009) Calgary – Veer, a producer and provider of visual elements and design-related products, is pleased to congratulate two type designers who recently received international recognition.

Stephen Rapp’s Montague Script and Alejandro Paul’s Adios Script have both won in the script display category of the annual Type Directors Club awards. The faces were selected from 165 entries from 26 countries, led by a jury of renowned type educators and fellow type designers. The faces will be featured in Typography 30: the Annual of the Type Directors Club, to be distributed worldwide later this year. The winning typefaces will also be exhibited in the corresponding traveling exhibit scheduled to tour the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Spain later this year.

A lighthearted, modern calligraphic script (like Rapp’s lettering for commercial greeting cards), Montague Script is based on letters written on smooth vellum with a sable brush. An OpenType face, it includes many contextual alternate characters for smooth connections, and exuberant swash capitals for a more ornate look on product packaging, posters, or in display headlines.

Romantic, decorative Adios Script is one of Alejandro Paul’s most elaborate and technically refined faces to date. Inspired by designs in “how-to” commercial lettering guides of the 1940s, it has been refined and brought into the 21st century through a huge variety of ornate swash letterforms. The lowercase “h” alone offers 43 variants. Hundreds of ornamental ascenders and descenders allow a beautiful interplay of strokes and combinations, while avoiding overlaps or conflicts. Adios Script features over 1,300 characters in total, in OpenType format.

“I’m very pleased to see Alejandro and Stephen recognized for their work. They are always top sellers for us, but Adios Script and Montague Script are Ale and Stephen at their best,” says Joe Newton, who heads up Veer’s type collections. “It’s gratifying to see them receive such prestigious awards from their professional peers.”

Alejandro Paul was also recently awarded honors for continued excellence in typography by the Bienal Tipos Latinos in Latin America. This important awards competition, held every two years, is juried by representatives from across South America. The 2009 jury reviewed over 400 submissions, and honored four of Alejandro’s typefaces, Burgues Script, Feel Script, Sugar Pie, and Adios Script in the display category. As part of the awards recognition, these faces will be featured in a catalog and an accompanying travelling exhibit slated for 25 cities throughout South America.

Alejandro Paul’s Burgues Script, Feel Script, Sugar Pie, and Kewl Script and Stephen Rapp’s Montague Script are newly available exclusively at Veer as part of the Umbrella collection. Adios Script, also a Veer exclusive, will be available in June 2009.

Veer offers over 4,000 typefaces, in collections chosen for versatility and freshness: Umbrella™, stylish display faces handpicked from around the world; Jukebox™, inspired by sign painting and vintage Americana; and Cabinet™, distinctive text families for large projects and identity systems.
